The German philosopher Hermann Schmitz defines as vagueness the basic perceptive condition for describing the concept of atmosphere, and the spatial model within which it can be experienced. The space of feeling – a space by definition devoid of surfaces and animated by numerous semi-entities – is able to involve the individual immediately, bodily and affective, for being characterized by intrinsic properties such as indeterminacy and impermanence.

To clarify the spatial character of feelings understood as atmosphere, Schmitz adopts the analogy with the acoustic model explaining its ability to act despite the impossibility of defining a quantifiable spatial model. Vago Spazio del Ritmo – volume 1 is the first chapter of a path dedicated to the indefinite that surrounds us and that becomes a refuge, only experienced via sensations.
