Congratulations to Brian “Javonntte” Garrett, who this year celebrates two decades releasing mind-expanding deep house gold. His first 12″ of 2018 sees him pop up on People Of Earth, a label that has previously delivered EPs from such scene stalwarts as Rick Wade, Patrice Scott and Kai Alce. Fittingly, Garrett is in a nostalgic mood on opener “Way Back”, where his deep, dreamy and soul-flecked deep house groove is accompanied by a spoken word vocal reminiscing about the mid 1990s. Elsewhere, “Zodiac” wraps starbust motifs around a chunky, bass-heavy groove, “House Joint” is a bumpin’ box jam rich in sturdy drum machine hits and swirling chords, and “Boom House” is a slightly tougher workout that boasts beats worthy of Derrick Carter or DJ Sneak.
