Description
Troy Brown was a key voice in the 90s house scene who released almost 30 EPs on a range of the most influential labels of the time. He recorded under several aliases including Dub Prophets and The Bushmen, but reserved his best work for his own name. This EP landed in 1995 on Trax 4 Daze and is something of a classic amongst those who know.
The low-sung ‘Blow Your Horn’ kicks off with dusty drums and hi-hats run through with funky guitar riffs that never quit. Steamy sax lines and old-school stabs bring extra colour to this catchy and loopy gem. There is more dance floor drive to ‘Feelin Real Good’ with its stripped-back drums and soulful male vocals, all underpinned by a nimble bassline that adds further movement. ‘Instant Replay’ shows another look with its filtered synth loops and freewheeling strings, twanging bass riffs and excitable horns all bringing a sense of party. This most DJ-friendly of EPs closes down with the tribal thump and alluring vocal heat of ‘Movin On.’
‘Trax 4 Daze Vol.1’ is another superb bit of richly infused house music that remains as relevant as ever.
